Gear review – Spark R&D AfterBurner Splitboard Binding
By Genevieve King
So maybe the past three weeks havn’t provided much in the way of fresh snow that we all crave so much – but on the flip side we’ve had fantastic conditions to get out touring, explore some new terrain and take in a little vitamin D. I’ve been lucky to have some new gear to play on… and I can’t express enough how stoked I am with my Spark bindings from FSS!
The AfterBurner binding features the new pin-less Tesla System, making it super-quick and easy to use. I’ve definitely been the subject of a bit of green-eyed gear-envy when the least experienced splitboarder in the group is all changed over and ready to drop long before anyone else!
It’s a really responsive binding with a stiff highback, designed for the aggressive big mountain charger. Having said that, I’m not finding it to be too much to handle. It’s really light, and the climbing wires are built in to the base plate which makes them easy to operate with your pole basket. Like I said earlier, I’m stoked on it. And now mounted on my Prior Khyber Split (also from FSS of course!!), it’s a match made in touring heaven.
There’s not many left in stock this season so get in quick, FSS is the only place in town stocking Spark. Otherwise, save up over summer and get your name on the list early for next season – it’s worth every penny!
Looks like the dry spell may be finally coming to an end this week, bring on the return of endless pow days and pillow lines yeeeeeeeew!
